Pulborough Road, SW18

Solving Rotten and Leaking Timber French Doors with uPVC

This was our second visit to Pulborough Road, SW18, following an earlier French door replacement for a neighbouring property. Both properties had experienced the same problem: rotten timber French doors that were allowing water to leak into the property.

After assessing the doors and surrounding area, we recommended replacing the existing timber French doors with uPVC French doors. This provides a more durable, low-maintenance solution and removes the ongoing problem of timber rot.

Inspecting the Existing French Doors

Before recommending replacement, we carry out a thorough inspection to establish the cause of the leak and make sure replacement is actually necessary.

Our checks include:

  • Inspecting the drainage and weep holes
  • Checking the rubber seals for damage or displacement
  • Checking the alignment of the French doors
  • Inspecting the threshold for water pooling or blocked drainage
  • Checking how the balcony drains away from the doors
  • Inspecting the frame, external seals and surrounding waterproofing

This ensures we address the underlying cause rather than simply replacing the doors without investigating the problem.

The Solution

In this case, the existing timber French doors had deteriorated through rot and were leaking. We replaced them with new uPVC French doors designed to provide a more durable and weather-resistant solution.

As part of the installation, we also use Code 4 lead beneath the doors to provide additional protection against water ingress.

Once the old doors were removed and the new uPVC French doors installed, the opening was left ready for the plasterer to complete the internal finishing work.

The Result

The replacement provided the property with:

  • New, durable uPVC French doors
  • A solution to the existing timber rot
  • Improved protection against water ingress
  • A low-maintenance alternative to timber
  • A finished installation ready for plastering

This Pulborough Road project is another example of how replacing rotting timber balcony French doors with uPVCcan provide a long-term solution to both timber deterioration and water ingress.
